Integration of advanced imaging and radiotherapy into multimodality treatment of lung cancer has been a major research focus, especially stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for early stage NSCLC and oligo-metastatic disease. Safety and eicacy was evaluated in prospective clinical trials, in large multi-institutional and national patterns of care analyses. Mathematical and imaging-based modeling of tumor and normal tissue response to radiotherapy has been another focus. He currently serves as president of the ESTRO society.

An NIH-funded investigator for decades, her research advanced evidence-based imaging, particularly MRI in gynecologic and prostate cancers. Andrew D. Maidment, PhD, has been selected as AAPM’s President-Elect. He will begin his three-year term in January 2026, first as AAPM President-Elect, then as AAPM President, and ultimately as Chair of the AAPM Board.
Dr. Andrew Maidment is a board-certified medical physicist and researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, where he serves as chief of physics for radiology in the University Health System and as an associate professor of Radiology. He is also co-director of the HHMI-NIBIB Interfaces Graduate Program in Biomedical Imaging and Information Sciences at the university, and recipient of the 2010 Special Dean’s Award for School of Medicine Teaching. Dr. Maidment developed the world’s first practical digital mammography system in 1993, commercialized as the Fischer Senoscan. Dr. Maidment has published more than 160 research papers, and has multiple patents pending or granted.

Dr. M. Saiful Huq is a Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Director of Medical Physics at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, both based in the United States. He is certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) and has authored over 187 peer-reviewed publications. He has delivered more than 242 invited talks worldwide, including many plenary and keynote presentations, and has served as an examiner for the American Board of Radiology (ABR), the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP), and the International Medical Physics Certification Board (IMPCB).
A Fellow of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) and the Institute of Physics (IOP), Dr. Huq has held numerous leadership roles nationally and internationally, including serving as President and Chair of the AAPM Board of Directors of AAPM.
Dr. Huq is passionate about transforming cancer care and reducing global health disparities, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries. He has spent decades advancing education, training, research, and equity in healthcare—improving lives and inspiring change worldwide.
In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Huq has received numerous honors, including the U.S. President’s Lifetime Achievement Gold Medal Award, the William D.
